by Matéo-Siam DominguezAfter 9 months of work, I am proud to present my new project: Long Courrier. ✈
Nine months ago, I discovered a musical movement known as Barber Beats. For those unfamiliar with the term, it is a fascinating subgenre characterized by slow, lounge-style tempos and a distinct underground aesthetic that has exploded on YouTube in recent years. I spent the last eight months immersing myself in this sound, captivated by its ability to create a sophisticated, downtempo atmosphere. This phase inspired me to move from a passive listener to a creator, leading me to curate my own contribution to the genre based on a theme that deeply resonates with me: travel.
After eight months of research and one month of development, I am proud to announce the release of my compilation album titled Long Courrier. Named after the concept of long-haul flights, this one-hour experience is curated to immerse the listener in the spirit of aviation and transit. The selection features tracks that are naturally pitched down and deep, creating a hypnotic, gliding sensation intended to make you close your eyes and imagine yourself floating above the clouds. It is a project born out of a desire to recreate that specific, suspended feeling of time one experiences during a long journey through the sky. ☁
However, it is important to address the context in which this genre exists. Barber Beats is often the subject of debate regarding the morality of music production and copyright. As the genre relies heavily on "plundering", sampling and slowing down existing jazz, lounge, or trip-hop tracks to create a new vibe, it occupies a legal gray area. This is why you will rarely find these albums on Spotify or Apple Music and they thrive almost exclusively on YouTube / SC.
Anyway you can find the full album available now on YouTube. Additionally, I have developed a dedicated custom player where you can listen to and download the mix with the highest quality.
